August Anniversaries

Two of our wonderful assistants are celebrating their anniversaries this month at Zachary Orthodontics.

Theresa started with our office in 2006 and works in the back with the patients.  Theresa is also in charge of all the ordering and makes sure we have the supplies that are needed.  Theresa loves being with the patients and does a great job making each one feel special!

Kathy started with us in the year 2000 and fills in where she is needed.  She works mostly in the front office as the Front Desk and Marketing Coordinator but also helps with the patients in the back.  Kathy’s favorite thing about work is interacting with the patients and their families!

Thanks, Theresa and Kathy,1-Kathy and Theresa for all your wonderful years of experience!

One August Birthday!

Happy birthday Maria!  She’s been a part of our staff for many years.  Maria enjoys working in the back office with our patients, helping to make beautiful smiles.  When not working at the office, Maria enjoys being with her family, especially at the beach!  When you see Maria this month, don’t forget to wish her a very happy birthday!Maria

How Important is a Panoramic X-ray?

A panoramic x-ray is one of the most useful films in orthodontics. It is typically taken between the ages of 7 and 9, when children have both baby teeth and adult teeth. The American Association of Orthodontics as well as the American Dental Association recommend a panoramic x-ray be taken as part of an orthodontic screening to check for extra or missing teeth, tooth eruption problems, root resorption, cysts or any other anomalies that might have gone undetected with a routine dentist series of x-rays. According to the American Dental Association, children should see an orthodontist by age 7.
We would like to thank our patients for their continued referrals. It is an honor to take care of your friends and families, and if you know anyone who could benefit from our services, please pass Dr. Zachary’s name along.

Fluoride and Your Drinking Water: What Do You Think?

In the June issue of Costco Connection, readers were asked to vote on whether they thought community drinking water should be fluoridated. Sixty-five percent of readers voted “yes” in favor of fluoridation. This reinforces what the ADA (American Dental Association) and the American Association of Orthodontics has said for nearly 70 years, that community water fluoridation plays a major role in improving the public’s oral health.

Using fluoride toothpaste after each meal is one of the most proven ways to help you stay cavity free. Fluoride makes teeth more resistant to the acids produced after eating or drinking and replaces minerals that are lost in the early stages of tooth decay. Fluoride is recommended for all ages.

If you have questions about the effects of fluoride with braces or would like to set up a free consultation with Dr. Zachary, please call us at 949-831-5500. We’d love to hear from you!DSC_0330

Chewing Gum Responsible for Migraines in Teens

Chewing Gum a Cause of Migraines in TeensA team of researchers recently identified gum-chewing as a cause of migraine and tension headaches in adolescents, according to a study published in Pediatric Neurology.

Thirty teenage patients were asked to simply stop chewing gum for a short period of time. Out of the 30 teenage migraine patients, 26 reported significant improvement and 19 had complete headache resolution. Twenty of the improved patients later agreed to go back to chewing gum, and all of them reported an immediate relapse of symptoms.

Dr. Zachary Visits Dana Hills High School

During the month of May, I had the privilege to meet and speak with the students at Dana Hills about a career in Orthodontics!
I want to thank Katie for the invitation and for her very kind words, and for the warm welcome I received from the students in the HMO program (Health and Medical Occupations) – I had a great time sharing perspective with these bright and ambitious teens!
